Dr. Younis A. Gismalla is a civil engineer specialized in water resources engineering. He is presently an Associate Professor and director of Dams & River Engineering research unit in the Hydraulics Research Centre. Dr. Younis has 34 years of wide experience in hydrology, water resources management and development, water harvesting, hydraulic engineering, hydrogeology, engineering geology, decision support systems, river morphology, sedimentation in reservoirs and irrigation canals.  Hydrological modeling, satellite based ICT for water and crop management.

Younis has started career as an assistant research engineer in the Hydraulics Research Station in 1983. Then he joined Roseires sediment dredging project (1984-86). He obtained his MSc in water resources engineering, University of Dar Es Salaam ‘spatial data analysis for water resources management’  in 1990, high Diploma in hydrogeology and engineering geology for tropical and subtropical regions, University of Tubingen in 1992, and PhD in water management ‘Assessment of Sediment Management Options for Sennar Dam’s Reservoir’, University of Gezira . He is the project leader for the sediment monitoring program for the Blue Nile system and Gezira Scheme since 1998. National coordinator for the Eastern Nile Planning Model and was selected as a national modeler for the same project. Younis is a national expert in the Nile Decision Support Tool Nile-DST and the Nile-DSS. He participated in many international and regional projects and events e.g. Co-chair, Nile Basin Development Forum Technical Committee 2008, Eastern Nile Planning Model, Nile-DST; Nile-DSS, Eastern Nile Irrigation and Drainage Study, NIDS, Eastern Nile Watershed Management Program,  FRIEND/NILE Project in Sediment Transport and Watershed Management, team Leader of Sudanese part in the Annual Lake Nubia Scientific Mission. In HRD Dr. Younis is involved in design/ teaching of training courses at local, regional and international levels, par-time lecturing & supervision of M.Sc. students in UofG. Dr.Younis has many published papers in international and national journals and conferences.
