This project was one of the outcomes of the strategic partnership-setting meeting between the Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources (MoIWR) and the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Sudan country representative in these interactions, one key priority thematic area identified for collaboration, was implementing local capacity building programs as well as identifying and operationalizing supportive practical policies to improve the productivity of the irrigated agriculture in Sudan, piloted in the Gezira Irrigation Scheme (GIS) to achieve food Security in the future with the help of FAO WaPOR portal to monitor Water Productivity through Open access of remotely sensed derived data the GIS can reach its maximum productivity and be the economic driver for Sudan. the problems of the scheme can be diagnosed in detailed and knowing the root causes followed by analyses of varied intervention options and finally cost-effective and sustainable implementation.
